ABOUT TAYLOR

BIO

Taylor Ott is a performing artist and multi-disciplinary artist who focuses on composition, performance, fiber art, and puppetry.

She serves as a teaching artist with Lyric Opera of Chicago and The Chicago Opera Theater, where she was also a composer, writing two children’s operas for their 2025/2026 Opera for All program.

Known for her esoteric sensibilities, Miss Ott likes to create shows and music that incorporate different genres from classical to pop, as well as whatever art form presents itself as the most expressive tool for the topic.

She was a programmer for New Orleans Opera Association's (NOA) Opera Nouvelle concert series between 2018-2020, exploring operatic themes from the season using music, poetry, and dance to let the audience explore familiar material in a different way. She was also the producer, editor, and a performer for NOA’s online education programs during the pandemic, creating educational content and videos. Miss Ott put on many hats, acting as director, video editor, performer, water colorist, and puppeteer in NOA’s Scenic Songs, a streamable concert for schools of operatic music filmed in isolation and incorporating dance, puppetry, and painting.

She was also the director and producer ofRe/visions, a performance series in New Orleans, from Spring 2017- 2018, as well as the curator of Scherbert Artisan Collective, a monthly art and craft show presented in her home in New Orleans.

In 2018, Miss Ott premiered her original musical, Ghost of a Chance. She not only starred in the one-act but was the composer, lyricist, playwright, and one of the producers. The show was well received, and Miss Ott is currently writing another two sister shows to accompany it.

Miss Ott graduated with her Master’s of Music at Mannes College The New School for Music in New York City, studying with Amy Burton and Susan Woodruff Versage. She received her BM, graduating 1st Class Honors from Trinity College of Music, London, where she was awarded the TCM Trust Silver Medal for Voice and the TCM Trust Scholarship. Miss Ott has performed in master classes with esteemed artists such as Susan Bullock, Louise Winter, Marni Nixon, Richard Jackson, and Eugene Asti.

Miss Ott's full roles include: Mother and Grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood, with New Orleans Opera, Nola in Waterworld the Musical, with Below Sea Level Productions, Sam in Ghost of a Chance, Below Sea Level Productions, Anna Surratt in Lincoln and Booth, with Golden Gate Opera, Side by Side by Sondheim with TCM, Arminda in La Finta Giardinierawith with Opera at Home, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro with Opera Nova, 2nd woman and 2nd Witch in Venus & Adonis, and Dido & Aeneas with Hampstead Garden Opera, The Devil in Cinderella, or the vindication of Sloth with Bitesize Opera, Mrs. Fiorentino in Street Scene with East Gate Opera, and in June 2009 she also sang in the world premiere of Flat Pack: An Opera in IKEA Wembley, which was filmed by the BBC and reviewed in Opera Now, The Times, and The Independent.
